MEESAH Earth-friendly andornment

“It's not about the finished product,” says Melisa Medalle, founder and designer of the earth friendly adornment design group, Meesah. Skeptics might give a sideways look, but she isn't kidding and continues to take actions to back it up.

Meesah lives up to their hardcore green philosophy in a number of ways. Partnering with local, positive climate changers, Evolution Sage, Meesah is now an official carbon neutral business. Reaching out to the community, a 1% minimum of sales will be donated to the local, green non-profit organization, Kanu Hawaii.

In place of an ordinary launch party, Medalle is organizing an educational event to increase environmental awareness through live performance art. The event is free of charge and will take place on Thursday, 11/20 from 6-9:30 pm at 39 Hotel. New Meesah designs will also be on display.

“Inspiring others to take more planet-kind actions in their lives is the priority. Perhaps accessorizing more responsibly can be a baby step in this direction, but if it ends up that someone walks somewhere instead of driving, or reuses an item instead of purchasing new -– fantastic.”

Medalle's current focus is a collection of eco-conscious jewelry, including unisex designs, presented in 3 lines: Nani Aho, Lavern and Ligaia. All pieces, packaging and displays are handmade from recycled, repurposed and sustainable materials, with non-electricity requiring tools.

Nani Aho transforms repurposed and recycled spearfishing gear into simple and durable piecce. Lavern uses vintage beads from the 60's and 70's for a truly funked out, bold vibe. Ligaia reconstructs found bits and pieces - like deconstructed vintage jewelry.

Keep an eye out for the next incarnation of Meesah: unique paper stuffs like stationery and gift boxes. All constructed from handmade, recycled paper.

Kick off Meesah being carried at Muumuu Heaven, this Thursday from 5 - 8 pm.
Light pupus, refreshments and a peek at limited edition pieces.

this used to be yours

As a continuation of “cap-a-city”, an installation art project on recycling, Tadpole Studio designed the “this used to be yours.” T-shirt to encourage the re-use of old t-shirts. The base t-shirts are bought from used goods stores and receipts from the purchase and logo are applied onto the t-shirts by the artists. The design has also been applied to other types of shirts, blouses, bags, hammocks....

To view or purchase any of the items listed above please visit us at Tadpole Studio, 1160 Smith Street. Don't miss the opening of "this used to be yours" on may 2nd, this first Friday at the art walk.
